Alex Wright Earns Conference USA Defensive Player of the Week

BIRMINGHAM – For his unstoppable performance in UAB’s 31-14 victory over Florida Atlantic, junior defensive end Alex Wright has been named the Conference USA Defensive Player of the Week.
Wright was dominant against the Owls as he compiled career-highs in tackles (8), tackles for loss (3), sacks (2) and forced fumbles (2). One of his forced fumbles was recovered by UAB at the FAU 15-yard line.
Wright led UAB to its best defensive performance of the season. The Blazers held FAU’s high-powered offense to just 291 total yards while compiling eight sacks, 12 tackles for loss and had four takeaways (three interceptions, one fumble recovery).
In the last three games, UAB’s defense has created nine takeaways and now ranks 18th nationally with 11 forced turnovers this season.
UAB (4-2, 2-0 C-USA) heads to Hattiesburg this weekend to face Southern Miss (1-5, 0-2 C-USA). Kickoff is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. CST on Stadium.
