Alabama State sweeps cross country awards this week

MONTGOMERY, Ala. | Alabama State swept the Runner of the Week awards handed down by the Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) on Tuesday afternoon after running in the largest field in the history of the UAH Invitational.

Shamia Jones (Albany, Ga.) won her third award of the season after leading a group of six runners across the finish line for the Lady Hornets in under 22 minutes. She finished the race with a time of 19:34.07.

Meanwhile, on the men’s side, Matthew Kibet (Eldoret, Kenya) crossed the line as the top runner for Alabama State crossing the line in a time of 28:26.46.

Alabama State will run again on Monday, October 18 in Clinton (Miss.) at the 2021 SWAC Championships.
