MONTGOMERY, Ala. | The Alabama State University Department of Intercollegiate Athletics and head men’s basketball coach Mo Williams released the 2021-22 schedule Monday afternoon featuring five non-conference home games.
The non-conference schedule features seven teams that made a postseason run in three – NCAA. NIT, and CBI – tournaments. The Hornets open the season at home with an exhibition contest against Mobile on November 4, before hitting the road to open the reg9lar season at Western Kentucky (21-8 a season ago) who made the second round of the NIT on November 9. They will finish off the first road trip of the season against Vanderbilt on November 10.
Alabama State will travel to the Midwest for the next three games, facing Missouri State (17-7 last season) on November 13, before facing Iowa State on ESPN+ on November 16. They conclude the road trip with a game at Iowa (22-9 last season), a NCAA Tournament (second round) team from last season, on November 18. That game will be featured on the Big Ten Network.
The Hornets return home for a pair of games beginning with perennial MEAC power North Carolina Central on November 20 (7 pm tip) and against Tuskegee on November 22 at 7 pm in an exhibition game. They will continue the homestand with a game against North Alabama (13-11 last season) on November 28.
The team hits the road December 1 to face Dayton (14-10) – an NIT participant from last season – before returning home to face Samford in their final home non-conference game on December 8. The Hornets finish out the month of December with four road games beginning with Pepperdine (15-13 last season) on December 11, before facing 2021 national runner-up UCLA (22-10) on December 15.
The Hornets close out the non-conference portion of their schedule against 2021 NIT champion Memphis (20-8 last season) on December 21, and at Texas Tech (18-11 last season) – an NCAA tournament team (second round) – on December 28.
Alabama State opens the conference portion of the schedule on the road against Mississippi Valley State (January 3) and UAPB (January 5). The home portion of the conference schedule features games against Jackson State (January 8), Alcorn State (January 10), and Alabama A&M (January 15). They will also face Bethune-Cookman in Mobile (Ala.) as the home team on January 29, before facing Florida A&M on January 31 to close out the month.
The Hornets will host UAPB (February 12) and Mississippi Valley State (February 14) at the Dunn-Oliver Acadome, before closing out the regular season against Southern (March 3) and Grambling State (March 5) at home.
