MOBILE, Ala. – A first-team all-Sun Belt Conference selection on the court this season, University of South Alabama women’s basketball player Antoinette Lewis has now been honored for her work in the classroom as well after being named first-team academic all-district by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Thursday.

The award — the first of her career — is one of five different accolades she received in her time as a Jaguar.  In addition to picking up all-league honors on three different occasions, Lewis was also named to SBC all-tournament team in 2019 and was voted the conference player of the week six times over the last four years.  This winter, she  was chosen as a candidate for the 2020-21 Senior CLASS Award® as well.

The Memphis, Tenn., resident, concluded her time as a Jag as just the third individual in program history to surpass 1,000 points, 1,000 rebounds and 100 blocks in a career as she ended up ranked in top five at USA in blocks (second), rebounds (third), double-doubles and points (fourth).  In all, she totaled 1,559 points, 1,091 rebounds, 237 blocks, 148 assists and 142 steals while shooting 53.3 percent from the floor.

Lewis, who was named to Sun Belt Conference Commissioner’s List in 2017-18 and SBC Academic Honor Roll each of the last two years, received her undergraduate degree from South in exercise science in December, finishing with a 3.50 cumulative grade-point average.

CoSIDA’s fourth district includes schools located in Alabama, Florida, Georgia and South Carolina.  To be considered for academic honors an individual must have a cumulative grade-point average of 3.30 or higher, be a starter or important reserve, and must have sophomore status both academically and athletically.

Lewis has now been advanced to the ballot for the NCAA Division I Academic All-America team, which is set to be revealed the final week of May.
