UAB Women’s Soccer Falls to Rice in Overtime 2-1

HOUSTON – Rice’s Delaney Schultz scored the golden goal 96 seconds into overtime as the Owls came away with a 2-1 victory over UAB on Friday night.

The Blazers came out of the gates in the 1st minute when Lizzie Hill stopped a clearing attempt, but her shot hit the crossbar 31 seconds in.

The Owls got on the board with 35 seconds remaining in the 1st half. Schultz flicked the ball to Izzy McBride who found the back of the net.

UAB got the equalizer when Lizzie Hill intercepted the ball and found Carlyn Presley, who juked out a Rice defender. Presley’s cross found Stella Kiss for the goal in the 52nd minute.

The teams stayed level through regulation. In overtime time, the Owls’ Serena Pham took a corner kick that found Schultz, who headed the ball into the net for the victory.

The Blazers doubled-up Rice on the shotboard 16-8 with Laura Zemberyova, Canby Biddle and Lexxe Lipsey each with three.

Up next, UAB returns home on Oct. 15 to host North Texas for the annual Bark in the Park night.
