Jax State Soccer Falls at Central Arkansas

CONWAY, Ark. – The Jacksonville State soccer team dropped its first ASUN Conference West Division match on Thursday with a 5-0 setback to Central Arkansas at UCA’s Bill Stephens Track/Soccer Complex.

The Gamecocks (6-7-1, 2-3 ASUN) will look to bounce back on Sunday as they host the Knights of Bellarmine. Opening kick is set for 1 p.m. at the JSU Soccer Field. Admission is free and the match will be streamed on ESPN+.

UCA (6-7, 3-2 ASUN) netted two goals in the first 23 minutes of the contest with Emma Hawkins tallied the first scoring play with an open net goal in the 15th minute. UCA’s Hadley Dickinson scored the first of two goals on the night to extend the advantage in the 23rd minute. Dickinson added her second goal in the second half near the 52nd mark. The Sugar Bears recorded the third goal of the half five minutes out of the halftime break with a goal from Gracie Hair. UCA rounded out the scoring with Alyssa Fason’s goal in the 68th minute.

“We had a poor week of practice and it led to a poor performance tonight,” said head coach Neil Macdonald.

The Sugar Bears controlled the offensive pace with 20 total shots on the night with 12 of those on goal. UCA held the Gamecocks to five shots – all on goal in the outing. Junior Cephana Deane had two of JSU’s shots, while sophomore Gabriel Clarke, freshman Kylie Wells and freshman Lauren Lancaster had a look at goal. UCA’s Morgan Rollow led all individuals with four shots, followed by a trio of Sugar Bears with three shots each.

“We were almost unrecognizable from the team that has competed in the opening part of the season and we’ve got to get back to the basics that have made us successful to this point,” added Macdonald.

The Knights of will also be looking for their first conference points after falling to Lipscomb on Thursday in Louisville, Ky.
