Alabama Soccer’s Bella Scaturro Named to TopDrawerSoccer Team of the Week

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Alabama soccer’s Bella Scaturro was named to the Team of the Week, the organization announced Tuesday morning. Scaturro recorded an assist in Alabama’s 1-0 upset win over No. 24 LSU as the Crimson Tide defender sent the ball into the box for Reyna Reyes to direct towards the net.

After throwing the ball in deep inside LSU’s defensive half, Scaturro timed her run off a pass from Macy Clem to find herself alone at the left corner flag. With her first touch, the UA junior sent the ball into the middle of the box and onto the head of Reyes, who was able to direct it to the front post for a goal.

As a member of the Crimson Tide backline, Scaturro also helped Alabama hold LSU scoreless through 90 minutes. It was just the second time this season that the Tigers were unable to net a goal as the team entered the game as the 16th-ranked scoring offense in the country, averaging 2.9 goals a game. LSU also ranked 22nd in both shots and shots on goal prior to Friday’s match, registering an average of 19 shots and nine shots on frame a game. Alabama was able to hold LSU to just nine total shots and four shots on goal.

The win clinched the Tide’s first victory over a top-25 program this season and the first win over a ranked opponent since its 1-0 upset against No. 15 Auburn on November 6, 2020. Alabama extended its success at home, recording its fourth-consecutive win and seventh overall win at the Alabama Soccer Stadium.

UA heads to Fayetteville, Ark., Thursday for a 6 p.m. CT match against Arkansas.
