Alabama State pulls out a hard-fought victory over Alcorn State

LORMAN, Miss. | Alabama State used a pair of goals from freshmen to pull out a win in their Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) opener on the road, 2-1 over Alcorn State on Friday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Alcorn State took an early lead in 21st minute on a goal from Mikayla Duncan.
  • Brooklyn Broderick (Kannapolis, N.C.) scored her first career goal off of an assist from McKenna Wiscombe (Orem, Utah) in the 36th minute to tie the score.
  • Camila Jimenez (Weston, Fla.) scored another goal this season for the Lady Hornets, this one off of an assist by Isabella Beortegui (Santa Ana, Calif.) in the 76th minute that proved to be the game-winner.

GAME NOTES

  • Alabama State outshot Alcorn State, 11-9 in the contest while the Braves recorded three corner kicks to just two for the Lady Hornets.
  • Sheila Sanchez (Castellon, Spain) recorded five saves in the win.
