BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Panthers battled in a hard fought, back and forth game, but came out on the wrong side at the end. The Scots netted a goal with five seconds remaining on the clock to pull ahead and win in stunning fashion.
After no scoring in the first half the Panthers struck first. Christian Hernandez got BSC on the board in the 54th minute. Coleman Smith hit the goal post and the ball ricocheted back. Hernandez found himself in the right place at the right time for the rebound and beat the keeper to give the Panthers the 1-0 lead.
The Scots responded to the goal with two goals of their own in a span of five and a half minutes. In the 68th minute the Scots took the lead after Austin Berry scored a goal to put the Scots up 2-1. Coleman Jennings would then tie the game back up in the 79th minute.
As the game got deeper and deeper both teams turned it up and had great chances to score, but it would be the Scots to have the last word. With 89:55 on the clock Mercer Stout found the back of the net to break the Panthers hearts and give Covenant a 3-2 lead with just five seconds remaining.
Covenant held on to win 3-2 in a very intense game.
Birmingham-Southern 4-3 Overall (0-0 SAA), Covenant 4-3-1 Overall (0-0 USA South)
