Women’s Basketball Edges Tougaloo Taking GCAC Regular Season Title

Talladega, AL – The Talladega Women’s Basketball team hosted their last regular season home game on Monday as they were set for their matchup with the Tougaloo College Bulldogs. This was also a very special game as it was TC’s senior night where they honored their five seniors in; Brijanee Moore, Courtnee Williams, Kendra Williams, Diamond Jolly, and Rosa Reynaud.

In the previous game of the season between the two, Talladega came away with a 98-67 win.

The Lady Tornadoes got off to a strong start, shooting 48% through the first two quarters. The Lady Tornadoes would hold a 15-point lead heading into the intermission 49-34.

Talladega would continue to strike in the third quarter starting with free-throws by Moore and a lay-up by C. Williams to extend the Talladega advantage to 16. Moments later, Jolly would sink one from under the rim extending the TC lead. 

Talladega would hold as high as a 22-point lead during the third quarter and would close out the third frame ahead of the Bulldogs by 13, 66-53.

With the Lady Tornadoes up by ten in the final frame, Moore would sink a lay-up that would spark the Lady Tornadoes offense a bit. After a pair of free-throws from C. Williams would put the Lady Tornadoes up 15, Tyeisha Juhan would hit a jumper to propel the Lady Tornadoes up 17, 80-63.

With the seniors playing in their final regular season home game of their collegiate career, they took full control of the contest and made sure the Lady Tornadoes would end up in the win column.

With two minutes left, Juhan got the Lady Tornadoes up 17 again. Moments later, Reynaud would hit yet another big time shot, taking a 19-point lead over Tougaloo 88-69.

K. Williams and Jolly would add some insurance to the Lady Tornadoes lead and Talladega would cut down the nets with a win over Tougaloo for the season sweep of the Bulldogs 92-74.

Jolly had a career night for the Lady Tornadoes as she sank 19 points. She also added 17 rebounds, earning the double-double.

Juhan had a stellar performance again, totaling 19 points and ten rebounds earning herself a double-double as well. Moore added on 15 points and nine assists.

The Lady Tornadoes will close out the 2019-20 regular season against Edward Waters College on Saturday. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m.
