Talladega, AL – The Talladega College Tornadoes men’s basketball team (13-2, 3-0 GCAC) capped off the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Talladega Round-Up on Thursday evening, as they defeated the Philander Smith Panthers 74-58.  The win came after previously winning their first three conference games of the season the three days prior.

The Tornadoes got off to a blazing start in the first half, building up a 39-28 lead when all was said and done after the first 20 minutes of play. Tony Hutson had the team-high in points at halftime raking up 15. Amir Yusuf also chipped in a team-high six first-half rebounds.

Talladega kept up their high-flying attack in the second half, posting 35 more points to ultimately secure their victory.

“To play four conference games in four days without our leading scorer was a great challenge,” said Head Coach Chris Wright. “Our guys stepped up and found a way to win all four of them. We really started to defend and rebound the way we did the first semester. I’m proud of our guys but we know we have a lot of work still to do.”

For the game, it was a balanced attack all the way down the Tornado lineup. Hutson had 20 points, eight rebounds, and two assists. Paul Turner had 12 points and eight rebounds while Trevon Adams added ten points. Yusuf had nine points and nine rebounds and Kendrick Robinson added seven points and three rebounds.

The 16-point win pushes the team’s record to 14-2 overall and 4-0 GCAC.  Talladega looks to add another win on Monday evening when they travel to face the Southeastern Baptist College Chargers. Tip-off is set for 7:00 p.m.
