Tigers Drop Game 1 at Faulkner

MONTGOMERY, Ala. – Stillman College dropped Game 1 of the weekend series at No. 5 Faulkner University on Friday, 13-3.

  

A solo home run by Shawn Ross put Faulkner on the board in the first inning and the Eagles pushed across a pair of runs in the bottom of a rainy third inning on an RBI ground out by Jonathan Villa and an Alex Arauz RBI single. Faulkner took a 3-0 lead into a weather delay. 

 

Following the weather delay, Stillman scored a pair of runs in the fourth and pulled within a run, 4-3, in the top of the fifth inning. 

 

Colt Dozier delivered a one-out single in the fourth and scored on Ben Vowell‘s first home eun of the season to make it a 3-2 game. Jared Hines drove in a run in the top of the fifth after Faulkner scored in the fifth. 

 

Faulkner answered in the bottom of the sixth and then added a pair of runs in the seventh and six in the eight to lead, 13

 

Hines led Stillman with two hits and an RBI. Dozier, Vowell and Bilal Whittle each had one hit. 

 

Jonathan Villa led Faulkner with three hits and four RBI. Ross, Arauz and John Michael Matthews each had two hits with Matthews driving in three runs. 

Stillman (3-19, 1-9 SSAC) will return to Montgomery on Sunday for a doubelheader at Faulkner beginning at 1 p.m.
