Stillman Women Swept at No. 25 Loyola

NEW ORLEANS – Stillman College women’s basketball dropped its final game of its weekend road trip to the Crescent City on Saturday, Jan. 23, falling 68-38 at No. 25 Loyola University. 

Loyola went on a 10-0 run to close the first quarter and didn’t look back. By halftime, it was 40-19 Wolfpack. While Stillman nearly matched Loyola point-for-point in the third quarter, 14-15, the Wolfpack out-paced the Tigers, 13-5 in the final 10 minuts to win by 30.

De’Asia Marsh led Stillman with her first Stillman double-double, 11 points and 10 rebounds. Morgan Collins scored seven points. Brittany Washington and Zaria Jenkins each had six rebounds to follow Marsh’s lead.

Stillman grabbed 19 offensive rebounds in the game, and gave up only 10 second chance points to Loyola. However, Loyola shot 46.9% from the floor, hitting 24-of-49 field goals, including 8-of-21 3-pointers.

The Tigers were held to 22% (15-of-68) shooting, including 15.8% from 3-point range (3-of-19)

Loyola was led in scoring by Kennedy Hansberry’s 14 points. Jazmene McMillan followed with 10 points, and Chelsea Gray had nine points and 10 rebounds.

Stillman (2-6, 2-5 SSAC West) will return home to Birthright Alumni Hall on Tuesday, Jan. 26 to host the University of Mobile (8-3, 4-2 SSAC West) at 5:30 p.m. The visiting Rams, which defeated Stillman, 71-66, on Jan. 12, went on to hand Loyola (7-1, 2-1 SSAC West) its first loss, 57-51, on Jan. 19.

There will be 71 student seats reserved in Birthright Alumni Hall for the Jan. 26 game. No other attendance will be allowed due to COVID-19 safety. Registered Stillman students, who have tested negative for COVID-19 during campus testing, will be emailed a Google form to sign-up for a seat, first-come, first-serve.
