Stillman Women Fall to Mobile, 59-48

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Stillman College women’s basketball returned home to Birthright Alumni Hall on Tuesday, but was unable to pull off the upset over University of Mobile, falling 59-48.

Stillman opened the game with a quick 6-2 lead. Mobile pushed ahead to close the first quarter with a 12-10 lead. The game was within two possessions either way for the first 17 minutes of action until Kelsey Pinera scored following an offensive foul to make it 23-17 with 2:34 left in the first half. The basket was part of an 8-0 run by the Rams to lead, 25-17. De’Asia Marsh hit a 3, swiped a steal and a fastbreak basket to make it a three-point game at the half, 27-24.

The Tigers worked the game even, 36-36, on a three-point play by Zikira WIlliams with 3:25 left in the third quarter. Erica Jones answered with a 3 for Mobile. After Olivia Mosley pulled Stillman within one, Mobile held off the rally with a late third-quarter basket by Lauren Bodino to lead, 41-38 after 30 minutes of action.

Mobile out-scored Stillman, 13-6 in the first four minutes of the fourth quarter to lead by 10 points, 54-44, for the first time, on a Nautika Philpot basket. Stillman was scoreless down the stretch until its final possession.

The Tigers shot 35% from the floor and hit only 1-of-15 3-pointers playing without its leading 3-point shooter Brittany Washington.

Stillman scored 32 of its 48 points inside the paint, led by 11 points apiece from Morgan Collins, Zaria Jenkins and Marsh.

Bodino led Mobile with 19 points, her second-most of the season, and 11 rebounds.

Marquise Cobbs scored 11 and Philpot added 10 points to go with five assists.

Stillman (2-7, 2-6 SSAC West) is scheduled to have the weekend off before traveling to Mobile (9-3, 5-2 SSAC West) next Tuesday, Feb. 2 at 5:30 p.m.
