Stillman Falls in SSAC Tournament Opener

DECATUR, Ala. – A three-hit, four-run bottom of the first inning was the difference Thursday in the Southern States Athletic Conference Tournament, as Stillman fell to Mobile, 4-0. The tournament, presented by Buffalo Wild Wings, is being played at Wilson Morgan Softball Complex.

  

 

Jaden Morace, Kaylee Pullin and Kaitlyn Spangler each had one hit for Mobile, all in the bottom of the first. After Allison Vincent reached on a leadoff walk, Morace singled and both runners advanced into scoring position on an error. Eila Infante drove in one run with a sacrifice fly to right, and then Pullin later made it 3-0 with a two-run home run to left. After an error extended the inning, Spangler doubled to center to score Destinee Cole. 

 

Both teams were no-hit in the second and third inings, before Hampton reached on a one-out single in the fourth and beat out a bunt to lead off the seventh. The Tigers left a runner on base in the first, fourth and seventh.

 

Katie Clifton took the loss, allowing three earned runs off three hits and three walks through three innings. Elisabeth Boso pitched three near-perfect innings to close the game, striking out two of the nine batters she faced. Her only base runner allowed was a hit batter in the fifth. 

 

Emily Butts (10-10) recorded the complete-game, three-hit shutout for Mobile. She struck out six. 

 

Stillman (10-35) will meet Brewton-Parker College in an elimination game Friday, April 30 at 10 a.m.
