Stillman Drops Game 3 to Mobile

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Stillman College hung tight with the University of Mobile Rams through five innings, but 11 runs scored in the sixth through eighth inning put the game out of reach Saturday in a 17-4 Southern States Athletic Conference loss at Tiger Field. 

Colt Dozier hit 3-for-3 with a walk, RBI and two runs scored to lead Stillman. Kelvin Reese and Bilal Whittle were each 1-for-2 with a walk.

Despite falling behind early, 3-0, Stillman rallied to even the score, 3-3 in the third. The Rams used four hits and a walk to plate a run in the first and two in the second to build its early lead. Dozier led off the bottom of the second with a double to right-center. After taking third on a wild pitch, Dozier scored on a sacrifice fly by Ben Vowell

Whittle led off the bottom of the third with a walk and advanced to third on an error after he swiped second base. He scored on a Jared Hines ground out RBI. Dozier later singled deep into the hole at short, leaving only a potential play at second base. The hit drove in Lazario Rodriguez, who reached base being hit by a pitch.  

Tucker Musgrove led off the top of the fourth with a single for Mobile and scored on a wild pitch to regain the Rams’ lead. Stillman starter Elijah Hammond stranded two Mobile base runners in the fifth but put two on and allowed a run in the top of the sixth before exiting the game. He was charged with two runs in the inning, finishing the day with six earned runs of nine hits and three walks through five complete innings. 

Mobile went on to score a total of four in the sixth, and two in the sixth with four total, two unearned, charged to reliever Tre’n Dorsett. A seven-run top of the eighth put the game out of reach.

Blake Roberts led Mobile with a 4-for-5 day. Musgrove finished with three hits and two RBI, including a leadoff solo home run in the seventh. Christian Poche’ had three hits and four RBI, while pinch hitter Trevor Wells drove in three with a home run in the eighth.

Stillman (1-13, 0-6 SSAC) is scheduled to host Miles College in a non-conference doubleheader Tuesday, March 30 at 1 p.m.
