Seniors Shine on Senior Day

Softball – Sat, Apr. 17, 2021

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Stillman softball program honored its two seniors; Candace Hampton and Kerstie Reynolds; prior to Friday’s doubleheader in which it fell 8-0 and 9-1 to Middle Georgia State.

Game 1 – Middle Georgia State 8, Stillman 0

Stillman College struggled to get the bats going in the opener, registering just four hits over seven innings.

Game 2 – Middle Georgia State 9, Stillman 1

The game was a scoreless stalemate through the first three innings but Stillman had its chances with bases loaded and one out but two straight strikeouts ended the threat. MGA would capitalize on its momentum with a six-run fourth before adding three insurance runs in the seventh to put the game out of reach.

Candace Hampton came within inches of hitting her second career home run during the final home at-bat of her six-year tenure, driving in Taylor Roland from first before the game ended five pitches later. Her fellow teammate and senior Kerstie Reynolds was on-deck hoping to get one more plate appearance that never came.
Reynolds had a stellar final showing for the Tigers, going 2-for-3 for the club’s only multi-hit performance of the game. Roland, Hampton and Savannah Mayes provided the other four hits with Mayes and Ayslan Blake both contributed walks.
Elisabeth Boso went 6-and-a-third innings, allowing seven runs on seven hits while punching out three Knights hitters before handing the ball over to Sara Kate Nichols for the final two outs.

NEXT: Stillman (10-30, 0-20 SSAC) will go on the road to face 12th-ranked William Carey in Hattiesburg, Mississippi next Friday for a doubleheader beginning at 4 p.m.
