Samford To Face Texas In Thursday Night Match-Up

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Samford women’s soccer team will conclude its non-conference schedule on Thursday, Sep.16 in Austin, Texas where the Bulldogs will face the Longhorns at Mike A. Myers Stadium and Soccer Field. The match is set for 7 p.m. and will be available to watch on the Longhorn Network.
 
Samford currently sits a 3-2-2 on its season after a commanding 4-0 victory over Jacksonville State this past Sunday at the Samford Track and Soccer Stadium. Upcoming Big 12 opponent, Texas, will enter the match with an overall record of 2-3-1 after defeating UTRGV by a 7-0 final decision on the Longhorns home turf.

BULLDOGS TO WATCH

  • After her performance this past Sunday against JSU, senior Zoe Perrin now matches fellow senior Alyssa Frazier with a team-high two goals on the season. Perrin found her first goal against Middle Tennessee while notching her second in Samford’s 4-0 victory over the Gamecocks.
  • Junior standout Taylor Yount continues to feed the Samford offense with a team-high three assists for the Bulldogs. Yount has tallied assists against Middle Tennessee State, Alabama, and Jacksonville State, while scoring her lone goal of the season against cross-town rival UAB. The forward has fired off 11 shots with three being on goal in her 439 minutes on the pitch.
  • Senior Audrey Kleiman scored her second-career goal against the Gamecocks, playing a total of 50 minutes for Samford. The midfielder found her first start of the season against JSU, recording seven shots with two being on frame.

 
TEXAS QUICK LOOKS:

  • The Longhorns have found wins against New Mexico State and UTRGV, while dropping matches to UCF, No.11 Georgetown, and Oregon this season. Texas has scored a total of 13 goals, recording 142 shots with 58 being on frame. The Longhorns have also tallied 11 assists, 51 corner kicks, and 63 fouls. 
  • Freshman Lexi Missimo leads Texas offensively with a team-high six goals while being the runner-up in the assists category with three on the season. Fellow freshman Trinity Byars is a driving factor behind the Longhorn attack with four assists, registering two against New Mexico State and two against UTRGV.
  • Between the posts, fifth-year senior Savannah Madden has started in all seven games for Texas, logging a total of 651 minutes in goal. The goalkeeper has allowed nine goes this season while making 27 saves after 68 shots faced.
