Recap

Talladega, AL – The Talladega College Women’s Basketball team battled on home court with the Dillard University Lady Bleu Devils in the Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Tournament Quarterfinals on Wednesday evening. The Lady Tornadoes (15-2, 5-1 GCAC) were hoping to move onto the Semifinals of the GCAC Tournament with a statement win.

It was a 25-point game after two quarters of play in the new Billy C. Hawkins Student Center, with Talladega holding a commanding 44-19 lead as the teams rested and prepped for the final two quarters of competition.

Tyeisha Juhan was leading the team as the Lady Tornadoes broke for the locker room. The senior force collected an early 12 points, three rebounds, and three assists. Senior Ireon Smith added six rebounds while in the first half TC had an efficient (19-37 FG, 51.4%) shooting percentage.

TC remained in control as the third and fourth quarters progressed. Dillard tried to remain persistent, however Talladega stayed vigilant knowing what was at stake.  Entering the final two minutes of regulation, the GCAC foes sat at 89-43 in favor of TC when freshman Kameron Shelley struck for the ender: her clutch go-ahead three-pointer was the icing on the cake for the Lady Tornadoes, as all that was left to do was tack on free-throws and remain as airtight as possible on defense.  Talladega officially moved to GCAC Tournament Semifinals with their eventual 100-50 win over the Dillard Lady Bleu Devils.

Leading the day for the Lady Tornadoes were likes of Shelley, who peppered the scoresheet with 18 points, five rebounds, two steals, and a (6-9, 67%) field-goal percentage; Juhan, who finished a crisp 15 points and six rebounds, and Monet Brown who added 13 points and six rebounds.

Talladega will be back in action on Saturday, February 27th as they travel across state lines to take on another GCAC conference foe, the Edward Waters College Lady Tigers in the GCAC Tournament Semifinals. Tip-off is set for 5:00 p.m. EST.
