Bulldogs Set To Defend SoCon Crown; League Releases Full Schedule

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – As the 2021-22 campaign rapidly approaches, Samford University head women’s basketball coach Carley Kuhns and the Bulldogs are poised to defend their Southern Conference regular season title, as the league officially announced its composite schedule on Thursday afternoon. The SoCon’s eight women’s basketball teams will all play double-round-robin, 14-game intraleague schedules, totaling 56 league contests. Conference play begins on Thursday, Jan. 6 with all eight teams in action.

The Bulldogs, who open the season on Nov. 11 at Iowa, will play a total of 29 games, including 15 at the Pete Hanna Center.

Samford’s nonconference home slate, which begins on Nov. 14 versus Montevallo, includes tilts with UAB, Jacksonville State, Murray State, and Kennesaw State.

In total, 28 conference games take place in January and 28 contests in February. All conference matchups are set for Thursday and Saturday. The regular season concludes with four conference showdowns on Feb. 26.

The Ingles Southern Conference Basketball Championship will be held March 3-6 at Harrah’s Cherokee Center – Asheville in Asheville, North Carolina.

Samford won the regular-season title in 2020-21 and No. 2 seed Mercer was crowned the tournament champion after downing No. 4 Wofford 60-38.

Full broadcast schedules will be announced later, but all eight schools’ home games will air on ESPN+ if not selected for national or regional broadcast.

The 38th season of Southern Conference women’s basketball opens Tuesday, Nov. 9.
