LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – Birmingham-Southern football moved to 3-0 in the 2021 season after a dominate 55-6 win over Arkansas Baptist College. This marks back-to-back weeks in which the Panthers have held their opponents to single digits points.
The Panthers got on the board quickly as Tavion Fleming caped off a six play, 63-yard drive with an eight-yard touchdown run to put the Panthers up 7-0 early in the first quarter. After trading possessions BSC got on the board again, this time with a 33-yard field goal by Zach Ford, extending the Panther lead to 10-0.
Robert Shufford ran in for his eighth touchdown of the season early in the second quarter giving Birmingham-Southern a commanding 17-0 lead. The Panthers did not stop there as. On the very next Arkansas Baptist play, the Panthers went up 24-0. A high snap sailed over the quarterback’s head bouncing around before Mike O’Driscoll dove and grabbed the ball for the Panthers first defensive score of the season.
Arkansas Baptist came back strong driving 68-yards and threatening to score. The BSC defense held strong and forced a turnover on downs to keep the shutout alive. After swapping possessions, senior running back, Robert Shufford ran in for his second score of the game from seven yards out, ending his day with 11 carries for 119 yards and two scores.
The Buffaloes of Arkansas Baptist got on the board just before half with a 28-yard touchdown pass. The Buffaloes would attempt a two-point conversion but failed to convert. A great kickoff return by Fleming gave the Panthers one last chance to score before half, which they did. Another 33-yard field goal by Ford gave the Panthers a 34-6 lead as they headed to halftime.
The second half was much of the same. The Panthers pushed their lead to 41-6 after Jon Lewis busted a 28-yard run scoring his first touchdown of the season. Later in the quarter Grayson Stacey joined the Lewis in scoring his first touchdown of the season as well. Stacey scored from 15-yards out.
Junior, defensive back, Hanes Green made a splash on defense after picking off a Buffalo pass and running it in for a pick-six finalizing the game at 55-6.
The Panthers did not allow the Buffaloes to score in the second half and won the game 55-6, improving their 2021 record to 3-0.
