MOBILE, Ala. – University of South Alabama head men’s basketball coach Richie Riley announced Thursday that Emanuel Littles has signed a grant-in-aid with the school and will join the program in the fall.

In three seasons at North Alabama, the Lanett, Ala., native scored 569 points and grabbed 746 rebounds while adding 64 assists, 43 steals and 40 blocked shots.

“We are pumped to have Emanuel in our family,” Riley stated.  “He’s a relentless competitor with a non-stop motor.  With multiple Alabama state titles in high school and a major role in the success at UNA, winning is in his DNA.  He will impact winning both offensively and defensively in many areas.”

During the 2020-21 campaign, Littles averaged 9.4 points and 9.9 rebounds per outing — leading the Atlantic Sun Conference in the latter category — while shooting 53.2 percent from the field; he was also credited with career-high totals of 26 assists and 20 steals to go along with 10 blocks in helping the Lions go 13-11 after advancing to the championship game of the league tournament.  He posted nine double-doubles, highlighted by a 20-point, 13-rebound performance in a victory over North Florida in the opening round of the ASUN Tournament, adding five other contests with 10 or more boards.

The 6-foot-7, 215-pound forward also paced the conference in rebounding his sophomore year, pulling down 10.3 per contest, as he scored eight points per game on 55 percent shooting from the floor to finish fifth in the league in the latter category as well.  Littles added 21 assists, 14 blocks and 13 steals while making 27 appearances including 13 starts, recording a double-digit rebounding total on 15 occasions.  As a freshman he started on 18 occasions while seeing action in 30 contests, averaging 4.5 points and eight boards per contest — ending up fourth in the ASUN in rebounding — to go along with 17 assists, 17 blocked shots and nine steals.

Littles helped lead Lanett High to three state 2A titles, earning most valuable player honors in the championship game his senior season, while being named to the all-tournament team twice.  A finalist for the Class 2A Player of the Year his final season at the prep level after posting averages of 17.4 points, 16 rebounds and three assists per game and recording 56 blocks, he was also an area and region all-tournament selection on three occasions.

USA’s 2021-22 recruiting class also includes NCAA Division I transfers Jay Jay Chandler (Katy, Texas, Texas A&M), Javon Franklin (Little Rock, Ark., Auburn), Tyrell Jones (Chicago, Ill., Auburn), Charles Manning Jr. (Riverhead, N.Y., LSU), Greg Parham (Richmond, Va., VMI), Diante Smith (Fort Walton Beach, Fla., TCU) and Lance Thomas (Norcross, Ga., Memphis).  Also signing with the Jaguars in November were Marshall Kearing (Perth, Australia, State College of Florida), Alex Anderson (Millington, Tenn., Tipton-Rosemark Academy) and Tyler Shirley (Mableton, Ga., Pebblebrook HS).

South recorded a 17-11 overall mark a year ago, marking the third straight season that Riley has guided the Jags to a .500 or better finish.
