Troy Soccer Falls at Little Rock

LITTLE ROCK, Ark. – After a delayed start due to inclement weather, Troy dropped an overtime heartbreaker, 1-0, to Little Rock in the opening match of conference play Friday night at the Coleman Sports Complex.

Five minutes into overtime and in a golden goal situation, a foul of Julianne Hester led to a Little Rock penalty kick. Bergos Asgeirsdottir found the back of the net in the 96th-minute to end the contest.

Despite several opportunities, Little Rock recorded the only shot on goal during regulation but could not produce.

The Troy Trojans and goalkeeper Lindsey LaRoche kicked off the contest showcasing their defensive strength, not allowing a goal through five shot attempts during the first 25 minutes of play.

Melissa Kuya-Strobel found Troy’s first of three shot attempts at the 17-minute mark. Just eight minutes later, the sophomore fired off another shot, but it fell wide left.

Caylah Williams took an off-target shot late in the first period, but the Trojans headed into the locker room scoreless after the first 45 minutes.

Troy’s best look of the night came 10 minutes into the second half when Kate Eubanks took a header that fell wide right after a foul on Little Rock resulted in a free kick.

The Trojans continued an aggressive, offensive attack, recording four corners and a shot within five minutes of play but could not produce any quality offensive looks late in the second half sending the match into overtime.
