Alabama Volleyball Wins Crimson Tide Invitational with Dramatic Five-Set Comeback over Southern Miss – University of Alabama Athletics

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Alabama volleyball ended the Crimson Tide Invitational in dramatic fashion, rallying from a 0-2 match deficit to Southern Miss to win in five sets and take the tournament title.

Alabama (5-1) fell in the opening two sets to Southern Miss (5-2), 19-25 and 27-25, before surging back with a convincing 25-14 win in the third. The momentum carried into the fourth as the Tide led from start to finish, taking a 25-19 decision to send it to a deciding fifth set. The Golden Eagles took an early 6-2 lead in the fifth and, after a timeout, Alabama fought back to tie it at 6-6. After five more tie scores, a Southern Miss attack error made it 15-14 Alabama and then Kennedy Muckelroy capped the victory with a kill to take the set, 16-14, and the match, 3-2.

Freshman Sami Jacobs was named the Tournament MVP, finishing the weekend with a team-leading 36 kills behind a 22-kill performance in Saturday’s win. Last weekend’s Tournament MVP Dru Kuck was named to the Crimson Tide Invitational All-Tournament team, digging 60 balls across 12 sets of play, an average of 5.00 per set.
