PANTHERS WRAP UP AT JHU TOURNAMENT WITH A SPLIT

BALTIMORE, Md. – The Birmingham-Southern volleyball team bounced back and took Virginia Wesleyan to five sets to get their first win of the day. The Panthers dropped the first two sets to the Marlins before taking the next three straight.
 
Match one: The Panthers fought hard in the first two sets, both being plus 20-point sets with very close scoring. In the third set, the Panthers went on a nine-point run to get an early lead over the Marlins 10-1. Four kills in a row from Kennedy Dickens pushed the Panthers to a 15-3 lead, and in great position to finish the set. The Panthers won the third set 25-16.
 
The fourth set started like the third with the Panthers going on another run to give them an 8-1 lead. Alyssa Coats had 6 out of her team high 16 kills today in the set. The Marlins held the Panthers at set point multiple times before the Panthers were able to take the set 25-17.
 
The fifth set started off as a back-and-forth battle between the Panthers and Marlins. The Panthers were up 9-8 before going on a six-point run, with kills from Gigi Fields and Leah Neilson, to win the final set 15-8.
 
The Panthers came back down two sets to win the match 3-2.

Match two: The Panthers dropped three sets to #25 Muskingum Fighting Muskies in their second match of the day. Emily Buhl led the team in kills with eight.
 
Birmingham-Southern had a team total of 32 kills, 4 blocks, and 38 digs. The Fighting Muskies outscored them with 7 aces, 47 kills, and 5 blocks as a team.
 
The Muskies dominated the match start to finish not allowing BSC to reach 15 points the first two sets. During the third set the Panthers showed more fight but ultimately fell 25-18.
 
The Panthers fought hard but ultimately dropped the match in straight sets to end their time at the Greg “Gio” Giovanazzi Memorial Tournament.
