BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Birmingham-Southern women’s soccer team started their 2021 campaign off with a 2-0 win over in-state rive Huntingdon College. Abby Walker netted both goals for the Panthers.

The Panthers came ready to play from the opening whistle. BSC netted their first goal in the fifth minute after Abby Walker hit the post, gathered her rebound, and sent a shot to the right side of the net beating the keeper.
Walker then netted her second goal of the game in the 68th minute. The play started with Madeleine Ash making a move around a defender allowing her to get into the box with plenty of space to work. Ash then sent a cross to the middle of the box that found Walker, who put the ball in the back of the net to put the Panthers up 2-0.
Ardis Haskell shined in her collegiate debut posting a shutout. Haskell recorded four saves in 76 minutes of play. The game was ended early in the 76th minute due to lightning in the area.
Katelyn’s Quotes
Her thoughts on the game: “We played really well, we tried to possess the ball a lot and we definitely did that a lot the first half. We were kind of running Huntingdon around us and we were definitely faster and better at it the second half.”
On Abby Walker’s goals: “Walker has been a great starter for us since her freshmen year and really coming into her own her junior year. Being able to get us two goals and a couple of shots on goal. She showed a lot of her abilities today and showed how she can help our team so much. She did a great job making herself available to receive those balls and get those goals.”
On Ardis Haskell’s play: “She defiantly had some big shoes to fill but brining in Ardis was a great decision on us. Especially the goalkeepers behind her to make her better. I’m very proud of her and the saves she made today and the way she got at our team to get her first shoutout. I am very excited to see what she brings the rest of the season.”
