Alabama State drops game one of NCAA Regionals to Alabama

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. I Alabama State dropped a 9-0 contest to the host team and No. 3 seed Alabama in their opening game of the Tuscaloosa Regionals on Friday afternoon.

After giving up a run on three hits in the bottom of the first, the Hornets held the Tide scoreless in the second before a two-run, two out bomb to left in the third put the score at 3-0.

Two batters later, Alabama found the plate again on an RBI triple, before Skyler Sullivan forced a pop up to center to get out of the inning.

The Tide added to their lead in the fourth, scoring two more runs on two hits in the inning to go up 6-0, and crossed the plate three more times in the bottom of the sixth for the final score.

Sullivan (18-10) suffered the loss in the circle, working 3.0 innings and allowing four runs off seven hits and earned a strikeout. Madison Myers pitched the remaining 2.0 innings, giving up five hits and five runs on the day.

Alabama State will return to action Saturday afternoon against Troy at 1:30 pm, with day two of the tournament set to start at 11 am inside of Rhoads Stadium.
