Alabama State falls to Grambling State, season finale on Saturday against Jackson State on the road

GRAMBLING, La. | Four players finished in double figures for Alabama State, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the hot-shooting of Grambling State in a 91-68 Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) loss Thursday night.

Kevion Stewart led Alabama State with 21 points, while Brandon Battle added 16 points and seven rebounds for the Hornets. LaTrell Tate chipped in 11 off the bench and Kenny Strawbridge added 10 points and seven rebounds. DJ Heath finished with nine points, five assists and three steals in the loss.

Alabama State shot 34.9 (22-for-63) percent from the floor and 38.1 (8-for-21) percent from beyond the arc, while connecting on 64.0 (16-for-25) percent from the free throw line.

Prince Moss led Grambling State with 20 points as they finished the night shooting 55.7 (34-for-61) percent from the floor and 56.3 (9-for-!6) percent from beyond the arc. Cameron Christon added 13 points for the Tigers.

Alabama State returns to action Saturday at 5:30 pm against Jackson State on the road to close out the 2021 campaign.
