Falcons’ season comes to an end in first round of GSC Tourney at UAH

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The University of Montevallo men’s basketball team’s season came to end on Tuesday night in the first round of the Gulf South Conference tournament. The Falcons fell on the road to the University of Alabama at Huntsville, 82-62, in the first round of the conference tournament. UM finishes the season 8-9 overall and 8-9 in GSC play.
 
The first half was tight early with neither team leading by more than two possessions. UAH used a 9-0 run midway through the first half to take a 32-20 lead with 7:36 left in the half.
 
UM responded with an 11-2 run to cut the deficit to 34-31 with 4:33 left in the first half. Despite the Montevallo run, the Chargers came right back with a 9-3 run to end the half.
 
UAH came out of the locker room at half and picked up right where they left off. The Chargers opened the second half with 15-4 run to go ahead 58-38 with 15:34 left.
 
The Falcons showed some fight and cut the deficit to 13 twice in the final 12:44, but the Chargers were able to stave off each UM run and secure the win.
 
Braxton Bertolette led Montevallo in the game with 14 points. Mason Shifflett added 13 to go along with two boards and two steals. Xavier Malcom scored 11, had a team-high six assists and also had two steals and two rebounds.
