Tuskegee falls to Miles in Fairfield

Fairfield, Ala. — Greg Boyd led Tuskegee University (16-9, 13-5 SIAC) in scoring, but it wasn’t enough to overcome Miles College (21-3, 16-2)  as the Golden Tigers fell 76-58 Saturday afternoon.

Boyd led The Golden Tigers with 18 points, connecting on 3-of-6 from the three point range. The junior also recorded a pair of rebounds and steals in the loss. Senior Myles Thomas finished with 11 points in the afternoon.

The first points came almost four minutes into the half by way of Miles College. Avery Brown hit a jumper which kicked the Golden Bears into an early lead. 

Boyd retaliated with a three pointer to jump out in front 3-2. The Golden Bears went on an 11-6 run to jump out ahead 19-11 with 8:09 in the first half. 

The Golden Tigers came within two from a three pointer by Boyd 20-18 with 5:53 remaining in the half. Tuskegee went into the half trailing 33-28.

Jelani Watson-Gayle hit back to back three pointers to start the second half, extending the Golden Bear lead to 39-28. The Golden Bears went on a 13-5 run mid way in the second half, spanning five minutes to bring the score to 52-38. 

Following the run, the Golden Bears never looked back and closed the game out with a final score of 76-58. 

Tuskegee finished the night shooting just 35.1 (20-of-57) percent from the floor and 29.4 (5-of-167) percent from beyond the arc. They shot 72.7 (8-of-11) percent from the free throw line.

However, it wasn’t enough to overcome the 56 (28-of-42) percent shooting from the floor of Miles College – who also shot 42.1 (8-of-19) percent from beyond the arc.

Watson-Gayle shot 61 (8-of-13) percent from the floor. Brown added 18 in the victory. 

Tuskegee will travel to Mobile, AL Tuesday evening to square off against Spring Hill College in the final regular season game of the 2019-2020 season. Tip off is scheduled for 7:30 p.m CST.
